The favorite is the side that’s more likely to win the match. It’s the opposite of an underdog, a side expected to lose the matchup.
When reading moneyline odds, the favorite will always have a – sign before their odds. In decimal (European) odds, the favorite will have the lower betting odds, meaning you get a lower payout than the one you get when betting on the underdog.
For example, if you’re betting on an NBA game between the Brooklyn Nets (-230) and the Chicago Bulls (+190), the Nets are the favorite, as you need to bet $230 to win $100. Betting on the Bulls, the underdog, means you win $190 on a $100 bet if they win the game.
