Vigorish, vig, also known as juice or commission, is a percentage that some bookies charge for taking your bets.
This is a risk-management mechanism sportsbooks employ to make sure they always stay profitable in the long run.
For example, if there’s no vig on a game between two evenly matched teams, the odds would be 2.0 on each team to win. With the vig added, the odds on each team drop to 1.9. This vig translates into a guaranteed five percent profit for the sportsbook.
